Just seen news in the Venezuelan media (and through the embassy) that all the police officers involved in the attack against the Mitsubishi workers have now been suspended and handed over to the prosecutor's office. It is to be hoped that the investigation will be thorough and will bring all those responsible to account.

In the afternoon of Thursday, January 29 (Venezuelan time), two workers were killed by police in the state of Anzoategui, Venezuela. The workers killed are Pedro Suarez from the Mitsubishi factory and José Marcano from nearby auto parts factory Macusa. They were killed when regional police of Anzoategui was attempting to evict hundreds of workers who had been occupying the Mitsubitshi (MMC) factory.

Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli bombing of Gaza in a statement released on December 27, 2008, expressing its “profound indignation” over the “criminal attack,” and urged the Israeli government to adhere to the United Nations Charter. Later Venezuela has expelled the Israeli ambassador to protest against the country's assault on Gaza, after the Venezuelan president described it as a "holocaust".

On Friday November 28th 1200 trade unionists at the BC Federation of Labour convention voted unanimously to endorse the Hands Off Venezuela Campaign.  The Federation represents 450,000 union members in British Columbia.  This victory for the Venezuelan solidarity movement came after years of patient work with and within the labour movement.
