In an impressive and well coordinated smear campaign, the Spanish corporate media has launched a preemptive strike against President Hugo Chávez. The print media included Público, El País, ABC, El Mundo, La Razón, Cadena Ser, COPE, Libertad Digital as well as the TV Channels.

The media campaign then spread world-wide to the BBC, CNN, Fox News and of course the internet was flooded with this explosive story. As usual, the finger of guilt was pointed at Venezuela and President Chávez in particular.

In the afternoon of Thursday, January 29 (Venezuelan time), two workers were killed by police in the state of Anzoategui, Venezuela. The workers killed are Pedro Suarez from the Mitsubishi factory and José Marcano from nearby auto parts factory Macusa. The final results of the Venezuelan elections are now out. The Socialist United Party of Venezuela (PSUV) has won about 80% of all local councils and 17 out of the 22 governors that were up for election. However the loss of Miranda, Carabobo and the Metropolitan District of Caracas, all of them extremely important from the point of view of politics, economy and population, and the fact that the PSUV did not win Zulia is a serious warning for the revolution, which has to be added to the defeat of the constitutional reform referendum.

On Wednesday night Mario Silva, on the program "La Hojilla" (The Razor Blade) showed a recording from an unidentified source in which various military personnel, some retired and some active, were planning a coup against Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.

The workers of one of the occupied factories, INAF, are being threatened with eviction from the factory on August 30th by the former boss. Please support workers’ control and sign this resolution! Opposition students in Venezuela are depicted as poor victims of an authoritarian regime. The world media pick up on this and repeat the fairy tale until people start to believe it. But these students are such victims that they receive hundreds of thousands of dollars in the form of the "Milton Friedman Liberty Prize". Friedman's Chicago Boys were also advisers to Pinochet, no doubt also seen as a "victim" by these people.
