Venezuela's Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro was taken into custody at New York City's JFK international airport today, where he was seeking to board a flight back to Venezuela. He was released only after UN officials came to his aid. Venezuela promised to file a formal complaint with the UN about the incident.

Today on many Arabic internet sites one can read comments such as: "I am Palestinian but my president is Chavez, not Abu Mazen." Or: "I don't want to be an Arab. From now on I shall be Venezuelan." On the other hand, the solidarity with Arab causes is widely shared by most Venezuelans, and also by most Latin Americans, especially the poor.

On Monday, August 28, a public screening of a new documentary about workers' control in Venezuela was held at the Teressa Carreño in central Caracas, with the support of the Ministry of Culture. More than 250 people turned up to see "5 Factories - Workers' Control in Venezuela", a film produced by two Italian filmmakers, Dario Azellini and Oliver Ressler.
