On Tuesday, Bolivian President, Evo Morales, asserted that he will call for an ALBA emergency meeting in order to analyze the US military bases situation in Colombia.

President Morales expressed his support for his Venezuelan counterpart, Hugo Chavez, who recently called the Venezuelan military to prepare for defending the sovereignty of Venezuela given the mounting tension with the neighboring drug-producing country.

Choquehuanca explained that President Morales has issued the call for this meeting in Cuba and has not excluded the possibility of these meetings taking place before the scheduled dates, due to the relevance of this issue.

Choquehuanca added that the fact that Morales has publicly supported Chavez’s recent assertions would not deter his relationship with Washington, which is currently in the midst of some negotiations with the Bolivian government.

“The concern displayed by our governments goes beyond those assertions [-Chavez’s]” –said Choquehuanca, although he added: “one must always be prepared to defend our sovereignty”
