24 June 2009 is
the 226th anniversary of the birth of Simón Bolívar, the Liberator of
Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru. We offer here a short
biography of this great man whose ideals of sovereignty, freedom and
Latin American integration are still vital today for the well being of
the region.
On Thursday 18th June, Hands Off Venezuela held a public film showing of the new FRETECO film and ‘Sold Out’, a short documentary about the recent occupation of the Visteon plants in Basildon and Enfield.
U.S. Hands Off Venezuela organized a public event on June 13 to discuss
the 50th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution and the lessons for Latin
America. Over 60 people attended the event, which was held at the
United Labor Centre in Minneapolis.
On Thursday, the 4th of June, the Société Bolivarienne du Québec/Hands off Venezuela held a public conference on the subject “From Caracas to Montreal: Another World Is Possible.” (also in French)
About sixty people crowded into Ryerson University's Oakham House in
Toronto (Canada) on 9th June to listen to Jorge Martín speak on the Cuban
Revolution. The gains of the Cuban Revolution continue after 50 years,
and it continues to inspire revolutionaries around the world. Hands
Off Venezulea and the Bolivarian Circle "Louis Riel" were proud to host
this meeting and continue building the links between the Venezuelan and
Cuban solidarity movements.
Around 60 people gathered at Bolivar Hall in London to watch films and listen to speakers on the subject of factory occupations in Venezuela, and recent factory occupations in Britain.
