Over 30 people came to HOV's screening of "Now the people have awoken" at Birkbeck College, London on Wednesday April 16th.  Due to technical problems, we were only able to screen asmall part of the film, but instead we were fortunate enough to be able to premiere a brand new documentary on Venezuela entitled "The People and the President - a Portrait of the Bolivarian Revolution" and one of the filmmakers, Iselin Åsedotter Strønen, was present to introduce the film.

The film focused on the views and opinions of ordinary Venezuelans in the barrios in the run-up and aftermath of the presidential elections of 2006.  An excellent and thought-provoking film, it mainly focused on life in the barrio of La Vega in Caracas. What came across the most was the people's sense of pride in being empowered and having control over their lives for the first time, and just why they voted overwhelmingly for another Chávez term.

There was time for a brief Q&A session with Iselin afterwards and no doubt we will be screening it again soon!
