Northern TUC conference supports Venezuela

At the Northern TUC conference on Saturday the 14th of April 2007 the following motion in solidarity with the Venezuelan Revolution was passed unanimously.

Motion 25

Conference aknowledges and welcomes the major achievements and continuing programmes of democracy, social justice and economic reforms in Venezuela under the leadership of President Chavez. In particular:

  • The continuing programme of nationalisation of key sectors of the economy
  • Policies to improve healthcare. education. housing and food distribution
  • The redistribution of wealth addressing decades of urban and rural poverty
  • The continued defence of democracy in the face of the persistant atempts by US backed multinationals to distabilise the Country

Conference further aknowledges the progress made by the Venezuelan Trade Union movement UNT and commits the Northern Region TUC to give their support to this emerging Trade Union Federation. Conference also wishes to express it's support with the Venezuelan workers through a direct affiliation with the Hands off Venezuela campaign, the Venezuelan Information Centre and any other campaigning organisation which supports similar policies.

The highlighted words were an amendment which was accepted by the movers.
