At a recent meeting of the Vancouver and District Labour Council a resolution to endorse and support the Hands Off Venezuela campaign was debated. After a brief discussion the resolution was passed unanimously by the delegates. This is an important victory for the Hands Off Venezuela campaign ahead of the Western Canada Conference this weekend.

Venezuela sent this letter, in solidarity with the Bolivian people, to the Bolivian Embassy in London today. We recognise that the
demands for "autonomy" for the departments of Santa Cruz,
Pando, Tarija and Beni are an attempt by the oligarchy to keep
control of the country's most valuable natural resources in their own
hands.

invited the Hands Off Venezuela campaign to lead a discussion on the recent
events that have taken place in Venezuela. Will Roche from the HOV campaign gave a summary of events
dating from the re-election of President Chavez in 2006, in particular, the
development of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).

Carrizalez announced the decision of President Chávez to renationalise the
giant steel plant SIDOR. The decision was taken as the
Argentinean-Italian multinational group Techint
refused to make concessions to the workers in the collective bargaining
agreement.

This Easter Young Left had its 44th congress in Arboga, Sweden. At the
Congress activists from the Hands off Venezuela campaign were present arguing support for a motion that included a call for Young Left to
support the campaign and sign an appeal to the Swedish labour
movement.
