This statement has been signed by the most important representatives of the Greek trade union and left wing organisations, including Manolis Glezos a hero of the Anti-Nazi movement in Europe
(1941-45), who at the age of
19 in 1941 removed, with danger to his
own life, the Nazi flag from the Acropolis - Parthenon.
Solidarity letter
of the Greek Committee of "HANDS OFF VENEZUELA!" campaign with the
Venezuelan people signed by 100 elected representatives of the Greek
Labour Movement and personalities of the Greek Left (intellectuals,
politicians, mayors, trade unionists, councillors etc)
Upon learning about the
challenges and the attacks of the Venezuelan oligarchy and its powerful
protectors around the world against the Bolivarian Revolution, we would
like to express our solidarity to the people of Venezuela and our support
for the efforts of the democratically elected Government to protect
public information from the reactionary conservative alliance.
The Government of Venezuela
was legitimately elected and has the right not to renew the license
of a TV channel that participated directly in the organization of the
military coup in 2002 and which constantly
encourages a new coup attempt.
We believe
that this international attempt to present the Government of Hugo Chavez
as an "enemy of the freedom of the press" is outrageous and aims
only to slander the important social reforms
in favour of the people of Venezuela. These attempts should be militantly
condemned from every progressive citizen of the world!
